Fair Housing Initiative

At JM Barnes Outreach Ministries, we are committed to advancing fair housing for all.
Our Fair Housing Initiative is a developing program designed to educate, advocate, and support individuals and families who may face housing discrimination or barriers to stable, secure housing.

What We Do

As part of our Fair Housing Initiative, we are working to:

  • Educate the community about their rights under the Fair Housing Act
  • Host workshops and community sessions focused on housing rights, eviction prevention, and tenant protections
  • Offer intake and referral support for individuals who believe they may have experienced housing discrimination
  • Develop partnerships with local legal aid providers, tenant advocacy groups, and housing justice organizations
  • Train staff and volunteers to support fair housing education and outreach
  • Build a fair housing testing and advocacy program to better serve our region over time

Why It Matters

Discrimination in housing still exists, whether based on race, disability, family status, religion, or other protected characteristics. Many people do not know their rights or where to turn for help.
Our goal is to stand in the gap by providing the knowledge and resources families need to live with dignity, stability, and fairness.

Looking Ahead

We are in the early stages of building this initiative. With community support and future funding, we aim to expand our services to include:

  • Direct fair housing testing and complaint documentation
  • More in-depth legal advocacy referrals
  • Consistent workshops in underserved neighborhoods
  • Multilingual resources to reach diverse populations

We are actively seeking partnerships and supporters who believe in housing justice and want to help ensure that every person has access to safe, fair, and stable housing.
